How Hunter Found Us

Hunter came into our lives as a rescue cat.

We don't know everything about the life he lived before us. We know enough to believe that some of it wasn't easy.

And yet Hunter arrived with a remarkable capacity for joy.

He finds the warmest patch of sunlight. He asks for affection when he wants it. He sleeps without guilt. He greets a clean pile of laundry as though it has been placed there specifically for him.

He doesn't seem particularly interested in what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow.

He is very interested in what is happening now.

Over time, we began to realize that some of the things we admired in Hunter were things we were trying to learn ourselves: how to be present, how to receive what is good, how to ask for what we need, and how to let a moment be enough.

We started calling it Hunter Kitty Power.

Hunter, of course, just kept being Hunter.

Maybe that was the lesson all along.
